Interview tips

  • Prepare the interview well; read the candidate CV carefully and write down your most important questions to the candidate.
  • Introduce yourself at the start of the interview, ease any nervousness in the candidate and ask why someone is looking for a new work environment.
  • Go through the candidate's (relevant) work experience and assess what he or she has achieved there (this way you know what you want to ask further).
  • Ask what someone is most proud of in his or her career; pose follow-up questions and assess whether this matches with the requirements.
  • At the end of the interview, indicate your impression and let the candidate know that you/we are interviewing other candidates as well. And, ask what the impression of the candidate is.
  • Close the interview and inform the candidate when he or she can expect feedback and what the further course of the procedure will be.

Additional tips

  • Pay attention to the candidate's growth and development.
  • Make sure you are clear about what someone is saying; otherwise always ask follow-up questions.
  • Be critical, does someone answer at the level you are looking for?
  • Initially, candidates will generalize, name group processes, and not speak from the I-person. Make sure you are clear about what the candidate has achieved.
  • Dig further and have someone draw an organization chart to gain more insight into his or her position in the organization.
  • Understand that you will never find out everything in the first round, but focus on the most important questions that you have determined in advance.
